About

about kakanda

KAKANDA” is a gripping film that blends suspense, action, romance, violence, and humor. At its core, it delves into the themes of ignorance and stigma.
Mairama, an eighteen-year-old, embodies beauty, innocence, and a deep reverence for tradition. Raised in a family of illiterates, she is unable to differentiate between illness and supernatural afflictions. Like generations before her, Mairama is compelled to accept the proposal of the first suitor, regardless of his age or status. Tragically, her betrothed, Amadu, is terminally ill, casting a shadow over their future together.
When complications arise during childbirth, Mairama endures a harrowing ordeal, culminating in a “KAKANDA” incision to deliver her child. This procedure leaves her with a debilitating condition known as Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), resulting in urinary incontinence and a pervasive odor.
Shunned by her community and ostracized by her own family, Mairama finds solace in Junaidu, whose love she had previously spurned. Despite facing relentless stigma, Junaidu stands by her side, offering unwavering support and companionship.
“KAKANDA” sheds light on the harsh realities of VVF and the devastating impact of societal stigma. Through Mairama’s journey, the film underscores the importance of compassion, understanding, and resilience in the face of adversity. “KAKANDA” is a compelling reminder of the enduring struggle against ignorance and prejudice, making it a must-watch for audiences everywhere.
